Abstract
Background: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease that can lead to significant changes in an individual’s self-concept. There is a need for a valid and reliable measurement tool in Turkish to assess this change.
Objectives: The study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Concept Change Scale and adapt it into Turkish.
Methods: The Descriptive Data Form and the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Concept Change Scale were used to collect the data. The scale’s validity and reliability were evaluated with explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses, internal consistency analysis, correlation analysis, and descriptive statistics.
Results: Average Variance Extracted values of each factor varied between 0.40 and 0.78. Composite Reliability values were between 0.71 and 0.87. Item-total correlations of the 17-item scale were between 0.356 and 0.665. The reliability coefficient of all items of the scale was 0.765. Cronbach’s α values of the sub-dimensions varied between 0.75 and 0.86, and the total mean score of the scale was determined to be 51.85±8.93.
Conclusion: The Turkish form of the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Concept Change Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
